Open Book

Reviewed by Alexei Vinidiktov

Open Book is a vocabulary builder with text-to-speech abilities that automates your language studies. It is primarily meant to be used by those who need to build a strong vocabulary when learning a language such as Spanish, German, French, Italian, Russian, and others. You can learn ready-made vocabularies or make an unlimited number of your own vocabularies with the included vocabularies editor. Open Book can pronounce any words or phrases in 7 languages: Spanish, German, French, Italian, Russian, Dutch, English. Open Book features a 3 stage learning scheme which greatly enhances the program's efficiency. Every item you are learning passes through 3 learning stages: Stage 1 - Learning, Stage 2 - First repetition, Stage 3 - Second repetition. The stage-by-stage scheme makes it easy for anyone to memorise any volume of information within a reasonable lapse of time. You will not have to "fight" the vocabulary you are trying to learn no matter how big it is. You don't have to spend too much time using Open Book to get good results. If used on a daily basis, Open Book enables the learner to easily memorise 400-500 words (expressions, phrases, terms, dates, etc.) within a month's time, while only working with the program for 15 minutes a day at the most. For each learning stage you can choose between 3 exercises ('Multiple Choice', 'Do You Know?', 'Spelling') and you can also set many other options according to your liking and/or your memory's performance.
