An American Idol Web Site Gone Bad?

The Web Design & Review team visited the web site of an up and coming young vocalist, but what they found was not what they expected. They had to ask: "What if Randy, Paula and Simon to this web site to evaluate an 'American Idol' contestant? What would they say?" This critique says "wonderful voice!" But to the designer they borrowed Donald Trump's famous phrase: "You're FIRED!" Follow along as WDR critiques the web site of... Thomasinamusic.com

Speaking of Web Site Critiques...

Bennie Taylor is back this month with three all new web site critiques. She offers her usual style of excellent suggestions for these web sites. First, she tackles this huge online publication for postal workers called 9th Street Rag. She then turns to the Doctors' Support Net with solid advice. I ask: "If you were a Doctor in need of counselling, would you use this site?" Finally She visits a site that markets K-9 guard dogs and here, even supplies an alternate graphic for the Rolling Meadow Kennels and Canine Training. Find all of these in the Web Design and Review Critique department.Web Critique

Web Site Critiques

Sorry folks. We just didn't get all of the critiques prepared for deployment on the first of March. They'll be arriving in the next week or so. We had a poor turn-out during February, only a few readers decided to share.
Folks, it's a simple mission: find a site you like in the Reviews department, then share your opinions and suggestions. It's simple and takes but a few minutes. Who knows. Maybe you'll like it! Critique A Site

-- and another where the site design possibly damages this iCi et la Photography site's very mission!
Then, reviewers Bennie C. Taylor and Fred Showker double-team a web site and tweak existing graphics and concept to improve the: "Air compressors in India" web site.

WebDesign Critiques: November

This month we have a "nice" critique gone bad when Beth Rogers of Rogers Web Design, goes head to head with your humble editor's brutal counter-critique. You don't want to miss this one! While the editor is on the war path, he also works with reviewer Jon Winchester to tweak the Texas Center for Multicultural Studies web site. And if that weren't enough, Abbeymore BandB is back with a smashing make-over, and a half dozen others get their day in court! WebDesign Critiques

"Faulty Tower" web site gets a second look

D. Burns is back with us again this month with a 2nd critique of the "Faulty Tower Computing" website! (This time without the "American Idol" slant.) The author made changes and requested we return for a second look! While a step in the right direction, Faulty Tower still has a long way to go.
That's what WebDesign & Review is all about, folks! WebDesign Critiques

A reader critiques our critiques

From time to time we get an email from a reader who isn't quite as pleased with what they find in the Design Center as most others are. Obviously with the number of visitors the center gets, it would be unreasonable to expect them all to be glad they came. An early lesson learned on the web is that you don't even attempt to please everyone. Nevertheless, we read them all, and when a negative one appears we look closely.
One such critique came last Saturday from a reader identified as 'Mark' who commented:
"At first I thought your whole site was a little basic for being about web design. Then I took a look at your critique page and clicked on the first site, Faulty Tower and thought, what an awful site. I'm talking about your site (The Faulty Tower site is even worse though)."
I've published the entire critique, along with some of my own comments. I also invited Mark to return to the page and give his views on specific design rules broken there.WebDesign Critiques

Web Design Critiques for February

Bennie C. Taylor is back this month with a look at the "Gallery 209" site commenting: This site needs work -- I would like to see at least one work by each artist to encourage me to visit the gallery and find out what else is there. "Gallery 209" is also reviewed this month by a new reviewer, Karen Cardinal of Cardinal Art, who takes a slightly different slant by investigating the meta tags and coding of the site. Two interesting takes of this site.
Bennie also gives us an extensive discussion of the "2000 Travel Pictures" web site, noting that many of the images there are spectacular, with an amazing variety of subjects -- but cautions a visitor will need much free time or a very fast connection to get the most of out this site because of the very slow-loading images.
Other reviews this month include: Alaska Gold Rush, A Bed & breakfast at Palmer, Alaska -- in need of a bit of content reorganization, and the "10 Commandments within Jesus" site, where reviewer Christina Szalay couldn't seem to get past the background art.
You are encouraged to benefit from these reviews if you're a web designer -- and please, lend your views and critique to those sites posted by your fellow readers.WebDesign Critiques

Speaking of Web Design

Two of our frequent web site reviewers are back this month, both looking at two sites posted last month for review.
The Alaska Bed and Breakfast... is heavy on code light on polish, as reviewed by Suzanne Fyhrie of OneWay Advertising and Design. (This is a rare review which looks into the coding of the page as well as Meta tags. GOOD REVIEW!) Then we visit the Chestnuts USA site with an insightful review from Bennie C. Taylor. (Mt. Cheaha Web Design) The GeoProducts site gets two reviews -- Leona says: "Good site, minor problems," and Bennie chimes in with "...good content, confusing navigation."
Then there's a rather curious yet excellent review of the "Creating Good vibrations" site. This one's all about content and not to be missed. WebDesign Critiques
